[It's an answer he hopes is satisfying, and it's not a lie, but it does glide right past all the nuance of the real truth.
It isn't that he wanted to die. It's just that he considered it an acceptable outcome. He's very old, after all. Death is preferable to the ticking time bomb in his body. But he's glad not to have given Dan Heng that kind of memory.]
[Jing Yuan laughs again, but this one sounds nothing but exhausted.]
Then I know who to call when time runs out for this old fool.
[It sure us convenient that they're pulling up to the dock of this artificially rural area. It's one of those places that reminds one that a Xianzhou ship is large enough to contain planets. There are billions of people who must be fed, and so places like this exist.
This particular area simulates a mountain tea farm. When the skiff opens, the scent is heavenly.]
[he’s not saying but he is planning several home invasions because jing yuan’s home security system is shit and maybe probably between scripts he can find time to fix it or something.
dan heng will always be his frozen northern star but jing yuan - if he let himself think about it - could be the sun of the solar system he’d been cast away into.
he gets out first. he has zero appreciation for the smell, and he holds out his hand to help dan heng off.]
taking blade's hand and hopping off the skiff, then turning to do the same for their driver. he closes his eyes and relishes the scent, at least, as a distraction.]
[He takes Dan Heng's hand without hesitating, but that means Dan Heng gets a clear view of the way Jing Yuan is looking at Blade right now.
There's heartache there, and uncertainty, but more than anything is a sort of tired relief and a warm and deep affection. He won't address what Blade said, but he's trusting in it, and it makes him so much less afraid of what's to come in a not-so-distant future. If it comes to that, Blade's sword will be a welcome release.
He tears his eyes away after a moment, to smile gently at Dan Heng and pat his head.]
Thank you. We need only walk a short distance. I have a place here for when I wish to escape my staff for awhile.
[he lets go of dan heng to fold his arms over his chest- ignoring that some gremlin had unbuttoned it- and takes up the rear of their little parade silently. ]
It is an unavoidable symptom of the malady called leadership.
[Also, it's funny when he comes back and they're all in a tizzy.
Jing Yuan's secret hideout turns out to be just up the hill from the dock. It's a tiny but well-built and charming cottage, with a garden in bloom, a little fish pond, and a perhaps excessive number of bird feeders. Inside it's quaint, comfortable, everything soft and cozy and with a soothing, natural kind of beauty. A great place for a solitary visitor to recharge.
As soon as they're in, Jing Yuan turns to smile playfully, hands folded behind him, head and body listing to the side in a way that is calculated to be as cute and enticing as possible.]
Now. Can you last a few more steps to the bedroom, or are you feeling a little more... primal?
[why are there so many aeons-damned bird feeders. is this the secret base of your bird spy army. he fucking knew it. all of jing yuan’s birds were agents of the state.]
[but he is not immune to blatant seduction, so there's more than one primal creature pouncing. enough in sync with blade even without the bracers, especially while he's being a mad dog... that it's simple enough to whirl so he's at jing yuan's back. breaking his fall, perhaps, but also putting him in prime position to sink his teeth into his shoulder, where armor doesn't quite meet.]
[He's expecting that reaction, and he's braced for it, so there's no resistance whatsoever. If not for Dan Heng he'd have hit the floor, but as it is he crashes into him instead. It's a softer landing for sure, but Blade's still got ahold of him and Dan Heng goes right for the bite, so he's not any less breathless than the floor would've left him.
There's a startled little gasp when Dan Heng's teeth sink in, but it's followed by the softest of content whimpers, and he tilts his head to make it easier -- to give him more access. Trapped there between them he locks gazes with Blade, and gives him a satisfied, catlike smirk.]
Please do. Remind me... that you're the ones I've always belonged to.
[how does he know the kind of thing that sets blade off? why does blade even try to think about that, even, it’s jing yuan, always has been his little shithead of a brat.
he crowds jing yuan’s legs open- and fists a hand in his hair, pulling harshly to hold him in place in the way he’d tilted his head to offer himself up to dan heng.]
If you’d opened your legs like this to someone else I’ll kill them.
[dan heng doesn't feel the same need to make possessive threats. his mouth is busy. the next bite lands above the collar, right at his jaw, less harsh than the first but much filthier. he's aiming to mark in more ways than one.]
[He's being so pliant and cooperative here. No fussing, no complaining, just sharp, needy breaths at the feeling of Dan Heng's mouth and Blade's hand in his hair. He's getting quite flushed already, the colour staining his cheeks and traveling down his neck to spread across his chest, under the armor. He presses his body back against Dan Heng's, and rests his hands at Blade's waist to tug him just that tiny bit closer.]
I... may have done that a few times, early on... but it couldn't compare to this.
[blade guarded what little possessions he had religiously. his sword. his name. his obsession with a ghost in the shape of his beloved.
he presses a thigh cruelly between jing yuan’s legs. looks long at the bruise purpling beneath imbibitor lunae- dan heng’s wet mouth. he hasn’t felt this clearheaded in centuries despite being drunk on want.]
[shudders under jing yuan, in a way that would be subtle if he weren't wedged beneath him, and starts deftly going for the fastenings on his armor as he keeps working on the same mark, gaze slanting to meet blade's above them.]
[There's a little pang of painful loneliness in that, but he can't focus on being sad when he can feel the both of them like this.]
But--
[There's a pause for a soft moan, as his hips automatically rock into Blade's thigh. He's already getting hard -- how could he not be, in this position?]
Mm... B-But from now on, I'll be only yours.
[And yet, he can't resist making a joke.]
...Although I don't believe I'm being compensated enough to justify you labeling me a whore. There are so many more colourful words you could use.
[blade- laughs. low, raspy, but without malice. he leans in, placing his hands on jing yuan’s knees, holding those powerful thighs open, cradling him like blade belonged there. he’d never thought he’d have this again.
in this form, dan heng’s eyes are just the slightest tint brighter than dan feng’s: like the sun through seawater. he tilts close, ever a body caught in dan heng’s orbit, but doesn’t close the distance like he did with jing yuan. hesitant.]
[That laugh. Honestly... he's still pretty sure this is going to hurt him in the end, but right now he doesn't care. He doesn't want to be anywhere else than here.]
I could be, for you two...
[A little verbal degradation never hurt anyone. It's fun. What's also fun is feeling squished between them as they kiss. He gives them the time to do so, staying still aside from sliiightly squeezing Blade between his thighs.]

for the first time, blade turns that homicidal, singleminded, animal focus that only one person commanded before - on someone else.]
I’m going to ruin you.
